Meet E-Wallet’s finalists
It started off with 26 acts on October 6, now only three are left. They are now standing tall trying to grab the K500 000 (about $1 515) booty to be given out on Thursday January 31. Who are these contestants? Yvonnie Sundu collected some basic information on these contestants as they await the finals on January 31.
Wakhumbachi Kalua
Wakhumbachi ,17, is currently waiting to go to university having completed her IGCSE at Kamuzu Academy. She says she cannot remember when she started music but it was at a young age. Her family is very musical.
She joined E Wallet because she wanted a platform to showcase her talent and the contest gave her the rare opportunity, a stepping stone.
She likes to sing gospel, R’n’B, Soul, Pop, Jazz and some country music. Her music idol is Leona Lewis.
Wakhumbachi is part of the praise team at Nkowa CCAP Church on Chikhwawa Road. She plans to donate part of the money in aid of the youth programme at her church and will use the rest for her personal needs, including school.
Taonga Kanthungo
Taonga is a first born daughter of Gerald and Martha Kanthungo. She is 11 years old.
She was selected to Bwaila Secondary School in Lilongwe last year 2012 where she is doing her form one.
She started singing in Sunday school when she was four-years-old. Her mother and aunties were singers in praise team at her church, Cavalry Family Church. She is a member of her church’s children choir whose trainer and teacher is renowned gospel music singer Chimwemwe Mizaya. She chose to join E Wallet to gain exposure and showcase her talent.
Her music idol is Cece Winans. If she wins, she wants to give part of the prize money to people in need and enhance her music career through further training in music.
Guise Pemba
Guise works at ABC TV as chief editor and teaches elementary music at the African Bible College Christian Academy. He is single and the last born in a family of six.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with emphasis in biblical studies and mass communication from African Bible Colleges. Guise plays the piano, guitar, violin, trumpet and drums.
He found out about E Wallet from Facebook and he decided to give it a try just to show his music students that one could actually do something worthwhile with music. The journey has been very adventurous for Guise as he has met a lot of people, learnt to be patient and adapt to situations as they arise. His music mentor is Phil Wickham.
Guise thinks that 29 is his golden number this year because not only has he turned 29 on the 29th of August but the show was scheduled to be launched on the 29th of September and concluded on the 29th of December but due to other circumstances, it will end on the 31st of January. If he wins the money, he will give 10 percent to God, contribute to a student loan revolving fund at ABC and invest the rest of the money in music.
