Traumatic events most often bring discomforting memories and devastating effects, but for Gustino Maida it is the trauma that helped him fine-tune his art. Captured by the Renamo militants in 1987 at the age of 11, Gustino stayed at Renamo Camp playing guitar for the soldiers’ entertainment until 1993.

After spending six years in a Renamo camp, Gustino returned to Malawi and married, that is when he met Goodson Baison his brother in-law to form their acoustic band.

Donning bling-bling chains on their necks, Goodson and Gustino have a peculiar sense of fashion—unique—they stand out as artists. One would confuse them for Hip-Hop artisst but the duo has nothing to do with Hip-Hop but would give Fikisa a run for their money.

The duo was captured playing in the area of group village head Lumeta, in TA Bwananyambi‘s area, Mangochi as they were coming from an initiation ceremony where they performed.
