Fedoma programmes manager Simon Munde said this on the sidelines of a training on National Disability Mainstreaming Strategy for Mental Health Users and Carers Association (Mehuca) in Blantyre on Wednesday.

Munde said mental health is a serious issue more so in the Malawian society which is negative towards persons with mental health and usually violates the rights of these people; hence Fedoma’s decision to conduct the training.

Mehuca chairperson Simon Thom said the training will help them understand some of the rights of people with mental problems because most of the times there is violation of such rights.

The training equipped participants on a number of topics, including understanding disability, human rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
