Mera maintains fuel prices

Consumers can heave a sigh of relief as the Malawi Energy regulatory Authority (Mera), at its April meeting on the Automatic Fuel Pricing Mechanism (APM), has maintained the current fuel prices.

The statement shows that compared to the prices for February 2015, the average Free On Board (FOB) prices for petrol, diesel and paraffin for March 2015 on the international market rose by 26.58 percent, 13.22 percent and 10.16 percent for petrol,diesel and paraffin respectively.

Fuel_pumpThe kwacha also underwent a 0.33 percent fall against the dollar since the last In Bond Landed Cost (IBLC) prices of March 2015.

Despite the rise in the FOB prices and the slight depreciation of the local currency, Mera has revised the fuel levy and recommended a zero-percent price hike therefore, pump prices remain at K696.30,K705.50 and K 609.30 per litre for petrol, diesel and paraffin respectively.

The monthly meeting  looks at local fuel prices in relation to trends on the international market and makes recommendations on price adjustments.
