Morton Mhango outclassed a field of 10 contestants to get the Mr. Zomba Bodybuilding Championships crown at Pajokala Lodge in the old capital city on Saturday.

What the pint-sized athlete lacked in stature he made up for in skillful display of muscle bulkiness and definition.

For his success, Mhango took home K100 000 first prize and a gold medal while his runner-up O’thaniel Kanyenda and third-placed Alfred Dzimbiri got K75 000 and K50 000, respectively.

“This is a dream come true,” said Mhango after he was declared the winner. “This is something that will give me confidence to go for the Mr. Malawi crown next year.”

Former champion Thoko Kakhongwe was not available to defend the title as he was disqualified for what the Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (WBAM) Eastern Region chairperson Bright Limani described as indiscipline.

The 2015 Mr. Zomba contest was sponsored to the tune of K950 000 by Pajokala Lodge, DR Hardware, H Adams Hardware, Rachel Supplies, Worth Supplies, Maziko Trading, Robani Supermarket, Ndife Otsogola Jhipego Project, Dyton Screen Printers and a Mr. Mtambo of FDH Bank. n
