Country Club Limbe (CCL) manager Chimdima Mhango put home ground advantage to good use last weekend when he earned a two-under-par finish to win the Nico Life Insurance Senior Golfers Ball Pool.

He posted 21 points to see off contention from 43 golfers, including his runner-up Prema Singh, who was counted out. James Chikapa took third-place after collecting 20 points.

“There was no way any other senior golfer could beat me at my own backyard. I know my course very well. That, plus the fact that I am a very good golfer, makes me a formidable player on the CCL greens,” said Mhango.

Nyakhoko Nsona found solace in hitting nearest to the pin on hole 13 while James Chimwaza could afford a smile after having the longest drive on hole 18.

Vizenge Kumwenda emerged victorious in the 20-golfer Falcons and Juniors’ category with 19 points.

Nico Life Insurance Company chief executive officer Osman Karim said they organised the event to give seniors an opportunity for competition and prove to the world that there is good life after retirement.

“Some golfers that played today are aged 85 and, as a life insurance company, this kind of interaction helps us understand what life after retirement is all about,” he said.

While thanking the company for the sponsorship, Senior Golfers Association president Gilbert Chirwa said the gathering was the right platform for the seniors to impart knowledge of the game to youthful golfers that took part in the Falcons and juniors section.
