People Living with HIV and Aids (PLWHA) from various religious backgrounds in Chikhwawa on Friday received three goats each from the Malawi Interfaith Aids Association (Miaa).

Miaa executive director Robert Ngaiyaye said his association with funding from Oxfam valued at $60 000 (K23 400 000), decided to embark on goats distribution exercise in Mwanza, Kasungu and Chikhwawa towards equitable access to treatment, cure and support for PLWHA and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs).

“So far, we have distributed 180 goats in Mwanza and Chikhwawa in the three-year project. We are doing this exercise in phases and this is the first one. We are expected to come again for the second one,” said Ngaiyaye.

He said the programme was meant to provide impact mitigation to HIV Support Groups economically empower them.

“We targeted 120 goats and we only managed 90,” said Ngaiyaye.

District commissioner for Chikhwawa Alex Mdooko applauded PLWHA for coming out in the open to declare their status.
