Malawi Institute of Journalism executive director, Dalitso Nkunika, has said her institution is ready to introduce a degree programme before 2020, following demand from students.

Nkunika said this on Friday in Lilongwe during the award of diplomas and certificates in journalism to 538 students.

“We have plans to introduce a degree programme before 2020. The demand is high,” said Nkunika.

She also informed parents and students that the institute is working on a new curriculum in tandem with the new technological world order. Polytechnic vice-principal Nancy Chitera, who was the guest of honour at the function, called on the graduands to think beyond being employed.

“I understand that the programmes you learnt have shaped you to be entrepreneurs, go there and shine, be the watchdogs and play your role in informing, and not misinforming the nation,” said Chitera.

She said she was pleased that the new curriculum will make students more independent than just waiting to be recruited.
