Miner hints at compensating community

Mudi Catholic Primary School head teacher Oswell Magagula has said early marriages are still rampant in the country.

Magagula said this in Blantyre during a stakeholders meeting organised by Blantyre District Youth in conjunction with United Nations’ Children Fund (Unicef).

The aim of the meeting was to assess social-economic challenges of youth and suggest ways of dealing with them.

“Parents confuse children with useless examples. We know some of you got married when you were 13 years old. We should not share with our children those experiences.

“Parents should encourage their children to work hard in school. As teachers, we are doing all we can, but if you give such examples, you are wrong,” he said.

Magagula said what children are encouraged to do at school should continue when they are at home.

Blantyre district youth officer, Lucius Fanuel, said the meeting was meant for community leaders to discuss development for the youth.
