Minister of Forestry and Natural Resources Nancy Tembo has launched a road construction project worth K3.5 billion in Lilongwe.

The road will run from Area 24’s Penyenye, passing through the city’s area 22B to Ngwenya Market and connect the M1 to Area 38.

Speaking during the launch on Monday, Tembo, who is also Lilongwe City South legislator, said the road in her constituency will boost economic activities.

Tembo: I want quality work

She said: “The K3.5 billion is a lot of money such that I expect a road with longer life.

“Previously, people have raised concerns with the quality of work done by contractors.”

Tembo said she will ensure that the contractor delivers the specifications of the design for the road.

She also asked traditional leaders to help monitor the project with the city council officials.

Speaking on behalf of Traditional Authority Tsabango, group village head Kanyoni commended the minister for the project.

“He said the road will improve the economic status of people in the area,” he said.
