Minister urges communities to conserve forest

and Water Development Joseph Mwanamvekha has asked people around the newly rehabilitated and upgraded Mzimba water supply system to conserve Viphya Plantations, widely known as Chikangawa Forest, to sustain the potable water source.

The minister said this on Thursday at Machecheta in the district after touring Mzimba Integrated Urban Water and Sanitation Project to check progress.

He said government is impressed that Northern Region Water Board (NRWB)-initiated project will be completed ahead of schedule.

“This is an excellent job and I would like to thank NRWB management and contractors for the good job.

Initially, it was planned that it would be finished in June, 2019 but the contractor, Sawa Group, says they will finish the work by October 21 2018, eight months before schedule, according to the minister

NRWB chairperson the Reverend Howard Matiya Nkhoma hailed government, management and the contractor for coordinated efforts to complete the project within schedule.

The project is being funded by African Development Bank, and Malawi Government.
