Ministry calls DHOs to improve sanitation, hygiene
The Ministry of Health has instructed all district health officers (DHOs) in the country to improve sanitation and hygiene during the forthcoming rainy season to avoid waterborne diseases such as cholera.
Chief of health services in the ministry Charles Mwansambo said government spends a lot of resources treating preventable waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery and diarrhoea which can be avoided if proper infection prevention measures are followed.
He was speaking last week in Balaka during a ceremony held to recognize Balaka DHO and Mbera Health Centre for coming top in infection prevention and control and sexual reproductive health (SRH).
Balaka district health officer, Eugene Katenga-Kaunda, said the award will motivate them to work extra hard to prevent and control infections.
Balaka was also awarded for coming first in safe motherhood. n
