Miss Malawi returns Friday

Miss Malawi Susan Mtegha arrives home this Friday from China where she participated in the Miss World pageant.

Mtegha missed her flight home after she fainted at the airport soon after checking in. A family at the Malawi Embassy in China has been taking care of her as Miss Malawi organisers were looking for K115 000 for her booking repayment.

Vitu Kamanga of Artistic Agency, managers of Miss Malawi pageantry, confirmed of Mtegha’s arrival.

“After a meeting with the authorities at the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Culture, government has bailed us out by paying for her return trip. She is booked on South African Airways [SAA] plane on Thursday and, therefore, arrives in Malawi on Friday around noon,” said Kamanga.

“We appreciate the role the ministry has played as they have led by example. None of this would have been possible without their timely support. Miss Malawi can now finally get home after a week of uncertainty. We also thank the embassy staff and the host family for their support,” he added.

Apparently, unlike other countries, who had an entourage of about six people, Miss Malawi travelled alone to China due to insufficient funds.

Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Culture principal arts officer Anganile Nthakomwa could neither confirm nor deny the news.

“I was not part of the meeting, but rather my directors briefed me to say they will make everything possible to bring Mtegha back home. That is the information that I have,” said Nthakomwa.
