An eight-year-old girl who went missing at Khama in Machinjiri Township in Blantyre was found dead on Wednesday evening in a forest near Ndirande Hill in the township.

According to a family member Leah Mbizi, the deceased, Felia Botha, a Standard Four learner at Mpata LEA School in the township, went missing last Saturday when she was playing with her friends.

Police are probing her death: Felia

She said the girl did not return home, prompting the family to report the matter to the village head and police.

Mbizi also said well-wishers and the police searched for the girl from the day she went missing, but to no avail.

She said three men, who are moulding bricks near the hill, found the deceased on Wednesday covered in banana leaves and reported the matter to village head Gulani who reported to police.

“When police arrived at the scene, they asked the family to bury the body [right there] because it was in a discomposed state.

“But the family took the body and laid at Khama graveyard at around 8 o’clock in the evening,” she said.

Meanwhile, Limbe Police Station spokesperson Chifundo Kansunje said police have not yet identified the cause of death.

Commenting on the issue, Gulani expressed shock at the girl’s death.

“This is pathetic to kill an innocent girl like her,” he said. n
