The ‘Build and Advertise’ campaign aimed at encouraging well-wishers to contribute towards the construction of a brick wall fence around Mulanje Community Ground has started bearing fruits as more companies have come into play.

The campaign allows firms to advertise their products on parts of the perimeter wall in accordance with their contribution towards the project. For instance, if they put K300 000 into the project, they will have a perimeter fence panel of five metres by 1.8 metres for advertisement once the construction is completed.

According to Mulanje District Sports Committee’s (MDSC) chairperson Santigo John Phiri, Kara O Mula Lodge, Plan Malawi, Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust, Hapuwani Village Lodge and Lujeri Estate have joined Eastern Produce, Kokotowa Lodge and Better Price Hardware, who were the initial contributors before the project began last month.

He added that Farook Mussa of Farm Trade and Emmanuel Matenda of Maganizo ndi Matenda Transport have also put K100 000 each into the project.

“So far 100 metres of the 650 metres stretch has been constructed due to the support from such companies and individuals. This campaign is bearing fruits because it is more of a partnership. Others wishing to help can call on 0888866247,” he said.

The perimeter fence is expected to help the MDSC to generate income from matches through gate collections and assist in protecting the grass pitch, which was at risk of facing destruction due to passers-by and learner drivers, who aimlessly trample upon it.
