Be Forward Wanderers have elevated their vice-chairperson Gift Mkandawire to the position of club chairperson.

The post had been vacant since the death of long-serving chairperson George Chamangwana on July 28.

Mkandawire: We need to move on

The Nomads’ board of trustees chairperson James Chuma confirmed the development yesterday, saying Mkandawire automatically assumed the responsibilities of chairperson in an acting capacity when Chamangwana died.

“But what remained was just to regulate the process which has been done. So, there will be no need for an election,” he said.

The development also means that Allan Chuma, who was the second vice-chairperson has risen to become first vice-chairperson, replacing Mkandawire.

In an interview yesterday, Mkandawire said he looks forward to his new task.

“It is not something new, I do not think there is something that is going to change in the way we operate. Of course, we miss George’s guidance and may his soul rest in peace, but we need to move on,” he said.

Mkandawire said his immediate task as he takes over the Lali Lubani Road outfit’s hot seat will be to build and sustain the trust of the stakeholders.

“By that, I mean the financial aspect which is not 100 percent. We have to be accountable on whatever money comes in and goes out,” he said.
