Mkwate returns to Polokwane

Flames midfielder Mike Mkwate has re-united with South Africa’s GladAfrica Championship club Polokwane City after the expiry of his short loan to his former club Nyasa Big Bullets.

Mkwate signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Polokwane City in February, but returned to Nyasa Big Bullets on loan after Polokwane missed the deadline to register him before the closure of the South Africa transfer window.

Nyasa Big Bullets confirmed that they had finally parted ways with Mkwate, who joined them in 2016 from Wizards FC.

The player flew to South Africa on Friday.

“The loan deal expired and the player has rejoined his club. Their transfer window is open now, so he will be registered by Polokwane FC,” said Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga.

While on loan to Bullets, Mkwate featured against Be Forward Wanderers, Silver Strikers, TN Stars, Blue Eagles and Ntopwa FC.

He scored a goal for Bullets in the 2-1 win over Civil Sporting Club last month.

Mkwate’s final game was supposed to be the second-round Blantyre derby, but the fixture was postponed when Bullets contributed eight players, including Mkwate, to the Flames squad that was in South Africa for the 2021 Cosafa Cup.

Polokwane City also has Flames duo of Khuda Muyaba and Dennis Chembezi.
