Mlaka now a full time evangelist
One of Malawi’s celebrated singers Mlaka Maliro is now a full time pastor, evangelising at one of the Pentecostal churches in Blantyre.
Mlaka turned to God in 2011 and started playing gospel music.
However, evangelism has now become his full-time occupation at Cross Life Ministries in Chilomoni, Blantyre.
“I got born again in 2011 and in 2012 is when I became a pastor. It is now that many people know I am a pastor just because I am having my evangelism service every Fridays at the church where God is doing miraculous things. People are now talking about what they are seeing,” he said in an interview.
He added: “It is not my own ministry. It is for God and our Bishop is Isaac Chitakata. I have been in that church for 22 years now.”
He says his journey as a pastor has not been rosy but it is worth it.
“The journey hasn’t been easy at all bearing in mind that we are in Malawi where people like to destroy what they have and call names what they don’t know. And the devil knowing the kind of person he has lost, he has been trying his best and he is still trying to destroy God’s mission on me. But the Lord I serve has been on my side always,” stated the one time Malawian top-selling musician.
His full time evangelism does not mean he is out of music, says Mlaka.
“I am still a musician an actor or in short an artist. August end I am releasing my second gospel album titled He is Alive. The first one was Hossana,” he explained.
Mlaka shot into the limelight in the late 1990s with his debut album Dzanja Lalemba which until today, remains one of the best compilations in the country.
With Maloto, the artist was propelled to another level as the second continued from where Dzanja Lalemba left from.
