People’s Party (PP) spokesperson Ken Msonda has hit back at the Malawi Law Society (MLS), saying it is misleading the public on homosexuality rights.

MLS is calling for investigations into alleged remarks by Msonda that gays should be killed.

But reacting to the statement, Msonda on Tuesday said MLS was misleading the nation regarding the rights of homosexuals.

“Much as I respect the MLS opinion, it is very unfortunate that the society that is supposed to interpret and protect our laws as enshrined in our Republican Constitution is now misleading us by supporting homosexuality, which is against our laws.

MLS president John Suzi Banda said MLS has done its part to come up with a position on the matter, stressing that the body is mandated to interpret the law and it came up with its opinion on the issue.

He, however, said it would be inappropriate for MLS to engage in a battle of words with individuals regarding homosexuality.

He said MLS does not have monopoly of wisdom on issues and if others feel that MLS is wrong on the matter, they too are entitled to their opinion.
