M’Mbelwa Council in nutrition awareness

M’Mbelwa District Council has rolled out a nutrition awareness campaign in Mzimba.

Using a mobile van and a public address (PA) system, council officials yesterday engaged communities in Manyamula to eat six food groups.

In an interview, M’Mbelwa District Council food and nutrition officer Mabvuto Mfune said most nutrition awareness activities were suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are using a PA system to follow Covid-19 preventive measures that, among others, demand social distancing,” he said.

Mfune urged communities to grow diverse food crops to enable them eat all the six food groups.

“We are also raising awareness on Covid-19,” he said.

RabeccaMbewe, a community member, commended M’Mbelwa District Council for the awareness.

“The message on nutrition is important, especially to expectant mothers and under-five children,” she said.

The campaign has is funded by Civil Society Organisation Nutrition Alliance and implemented by Save the Children under the Scaling Up Nutrition Project.
