Mob kills suspected thief

Unidentified man has been killed by a mob in Dedza on suspicion that he tried to steal a bicycle.

Confirming the development, Dedza Deputy Police publicist Cassim Manda said the incident happened Wednesday night when the owner of the bicycle Eliko Biziwiki was attacked by three gangs while he was cycling to Mozambique.

“The three came out from the bush and struck him on the head as they tried to steal the bicycle,” explained Manda.

Manda said Biziwiki then got hold of one of the attackers and screamed for help and when people from the two villages of Njuchi and Mpira in Traditional Authority Chadza arrived at the scene they beat the suspect to death.

Police have since lodged a search for the ringleader of the mob.

Meanwhile, Dedza Police is calling on the general public to come to their office and identify the body which is now at the district hospital mortuary.
