The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) takes its long-term aim at the 2016 Olympic Games by launching an ambitious strategic plan on Friday, February 22 2013 in Lilongwe.

The launch of the four-year plan is set for the President Hotel, Banqueting Hall, MOC administration manager Naomi Chinatu said in a press statement.

“The ultimate goal of the MOC is to ensure that Malawi competes in Rio 2016 Olympic Games with qualified athletes,” Chinatu said last week.

MOC president Oscar Kanjala on Monday said it would even be good if associations affiliated to the mother body also developed their strategic plans.

“Our affiliates need to understand that they have been part of the development of the plan. They need to own this plan. It is their plan. They need to take part in its implementation,” Kanjala explained.

MOC wants the plan to act as a blueprint for all sports associations.

Malawi has never produced a qualifying athlete for Olympic Games, let alone win medals since independence.

In the absence of achieving qualifying time, MOC sends athletes to Olympic Games on solidarity.
