MOC to continue with Olympic Games planning

The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) says meetings with its affiliates will continue to strategise for 2016 Olympic Games.

MOC president Oscar Kanjala said this when asked on Thursday why some of its affiliates such as the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) were left out of the first meeting held on Saturday in Blantyre.

“This was the start of a continuous process. Next time, we may call others who were not part of this meeting. There is still a long way before the Olympic Games and we are looking at the disciplines that have the potential to qualify. We want to build capacity and confidence in the associations,” Kanjala said.

During the meeting, MOC was reportedly asking each of the 14 affiliates’ representatives on plans they have for the games’ qualification, how they intend to prepare for qualification and what resources they have for achieving such objectives.

Malawi athletes struggle on the international stage due to poor planning, among others. MOC expects to host mini Olympic Games later this year.
