Modest Bvumbwe in ruthless start

Listen to this article

Forget all their modest talk. Results on the pitch suggest that Bvumbwe Research FC are bent on bouncing back into the TNM Super League from the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL).

After marginally missing out on the Carlsberg Cup paying ranks, Bvumbwe opened their Premier Division chapter with a comprehensive 7-0 thrashing of White Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.

In the match, Thoko Mbandambanda nailed a double, Joel Scot claimed a brace, James Francis also netted twice while Johanes Chisale stepped on the plate with a goal  to leave coach Bob Mpinganjira with a rare smile.

“I was not particularly surprised at the result and the scoreline because before this game, the highest we had scored were six goals. We were active for many months playing in friendly games and Carlsberg Cup, hence we were in better shape” said Mpinganjira who earlier said they are not obsessed with Super League promotion hopes.

In another match on the same day, Premier Division leaders Chikhwawa United thumped Tigers Youth 4-0  with goals from Lanken Mwale, Stocker Munthali (a brace) and Ian Banda.

There was yet another Chikhwawa win on Saturday as they left Alex Masanjala’s side,  Kabula United, formerly Escom United, winless in two matches with a 1-3 loss at the BAT Ground where Terryson Lino, Westen Kwaiva and Mwale were on target.

The result meant that last season’s runners-up, Chikhwawa have in four games won three and drawn once while scoring 11and conceding two. .

In other Premier Division matches, rookies Ndirande Icons edged experienced Zomba United 1-0 on Sunday. On Saturday, new-comers Mangochi beat Changalume 1-0 while Prison United were 2-1 winners over Green Hawks. Nyasa United and Cobbe Barracks drew 1-1.n
