More changes in Malawi Government

Principal Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet responsible for HIV, Aids and Nutrition Dr. Mary Shawa on Wednesday became the latest Capital Hill change in President Joyce Banda’s administration.

Shawa has been moved to the Ministry of Gender, Child and Community Development as PS 1 with immediate effect.

Shawa confirmed her posting and said she has already reported for duties in her new post.

Said Shawa: “I received my letter on Tuesday and immediately reported to the ministry. I returned later to collect my belongings.

“I am really humbled and very grateful to the President for giving me another opportunity to serve government in another capacity. I pray to God to guide her in moving this country.”

Some top officials have so far lost their jobs and Banda promised on Tuesday that more changes are imminent. The first casualty was former police inspector general Peter Mukhito who was replaced by Loti Dzonzi. Minister of Information and Civic Education Moses Kunkuyu replaced outspoken Patricia Kaliati followed while the new Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) director general Benson Tembo took over from Bright Malopa.

Secretary to the Treasury Joseph Mwanamvekha was replaced by Radson Mwadiwa.
