Holiday time leaves me with extra weight, how do I get rid of these extra pounds? Chimwemwe

Answer:  Losing weight is hard work; start doing so by cutting down slowly. Eat half of what you normally would for lunch then eat vegetables and or salads for dinner. Lower your carbohydrate intake and include a lean protein at each meal. You still need fat for the well-being of your body.

Aim for three balanced meals a day. If you are hungry in-between, reach for a fruit.  Deprivation leads to preoccupation with food, therefore, do not ban any foods; just make the right choice.

A more effective metabolism helps you to burn more energy per day.  If the body is unable to burn all the calories you consumed during the day, the excess energy is stored as fat. The biggest challenge for you to lose the weight you have gained is to burn more energy than you have taken into your body.

Exercise remains one of the most effective ways of burning energy.  Aerobics, brisk walking, cycling and dancing are all good ways to get your heart pumping and burn energy; especially before you sit down to enjoy a meal.  Hours after you have exercised, your body is still burning more energy than usual.

Muscle cells burn up to eight times more fat than fat cells. Resistance exercise with light weights will help you build up lean muscles which will lead to more ‘energy being burned. Remember to drink a big glass of water before eating and plenty more during the day!

My hair is damaged due to years of relaxing, colouring, braiding, and weaving. It looks terrible, dry, breaks easily, and has split ends!  What can I do to reverse this situation Lucy?  Maggie

Answer:  Having healthy, shiny, manageable hair is a must for everybody – your hair has to feel as good as it looks. The unbendable rule of hair beauty is to ensure that it is always clean and neat.

Damaged hair can be a nightmare! But luckily, there are amazing products on the market that can repair your damaged hair.

Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise, which contains olive oil, egg protein, and herbs, is a wonderful treatment for over-processed and damaged hair. However, if your hair is severely damaged, add extra egg, extra virgin olive oil and honey to your mayonnaise conditioner, mix well, apply to towel-dried hair and leave it on for an hour.

If you follow this process every week, your hair should be back to normal in no time at all. Avoid using strong chemicals in your hair for two months or more as these can slow down or even reverse the healing process.
