All roads lead to Ntchisi today where Nation Publications Limited (NPL) and its partners are set to hand over medical resources mobilised through this year’s Mother’s Fun Run (MFR).

MFR, the media house’s annual corporate social responsibility initiative since 2005, aims at promoting safe motherhood in the country by, among others, mobilising resources to buy medical equipment and other materials for maternity wings of district hospitals and their respective satellite health facilities.

Each year, and on a rotational regional basis, a district hospital is targeted for assistance that has drastically improved work in maternity wings in the country’s district hospitals and health centres.

Ntchisi, which annually loses 12 mothers and 168 babies to pregnancy-related complications and technical challenges, gets its chance today.

In an interview yesterday, MFR coordinator Albert Banda said all was set to make this year’s event a success.

This year’s campaign also saw other volunteers take part in sponsored running or long and short distance cycling. Some made cash donations to the cause while others bought equipment and supplies which will be donated this today.

Preceding the handover ceremony will be the traditional Fun Run where patrons and sponsored runners participate in.

The run will start from Mafosha Secondary School, past the district hospital to Buzi Primary School and back to the finishing line at the hospital.

This year’s MFR is themed ‘Safe Motherhood: Together We Can Make a Difference’.

Since NPL introduced the yearly fun runs, the project has raised over K300 million cumulatively.
