Mulanje Police Station spokesperson Gresham Ngwira identified the deceased as Shafi Chilupsa from Chiwembe Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kapeni in Blantyre.

deathhAccording to Ngwira, the deceased collided with an on-coming minibus as he was overtaking another minibus. The man was travelling from Chisitu to Mulanje Boma.

“Unfortunately, he collided head-on with another minibus, a Toyota Hiace registration BT 3351, which was going in the opposite direction.

“Due to the impact of the accident, the deceased sustained head injuries and a fractured leg. He was pronounced dead at Mulanje District Hospital where he was taken for medical attention,” said Ngwira.

Recently, police in the district registered similar accidents. For instance, in April this year, three lives were lost in road accidents that involved motor vehicles, pedal cyclists and motorcycles.

The first accident registered in April involved a cyclist and his passenger who died after a Toyota Hilux hit them at Naphinga Bridge.

The other one involved a teenage pedal cyclist, Lesten John, from Mnesa Village in T/A Mabuka in Mulanje .
