Moyale’s talisman Gastin Simkonda not only boosted his team’s TNM Super League title hopes yesterday but also got past his teammate Deus Nkutu in the chase for the league’s Golden Boot Award.

Simkonda—who is enjoying a rich vein of form—struck twice in the second-half as Moyale beat struggling Epac FC 2-0 at Mzuzu Stadium.

The result meant Moyale are now three points short of leaders Big Bullets who still stand proudly at the pinnacle with 56 points. Bullets and Moyale have two games each before they wind up the season and, interestingly, one is between them.

After a yawning first-half that failed to stir the passions, Moyale had a renewed purpose in the second-half in which they turned on a five-star show forcing their opponents into rearguard action.

Simkonda first struck in the 49th minute and just when Epac were fighting for an equaliser, he claimed the second to give life to their title chase.

Third-placed Blue Eagles suffered a shock 2-3 defeat at home at the hands of rookies Airborne Rangers, a result that could give third-placed Civo United a chance to leap-frog them.

Christopher Banda and Asedi Ayami scored the vital goals for Airborne in their quest to remain put in the league while Gilbert Chirwa scored the consolation goal for the Area 30 cops.

Eagles now have 47 points from 26 games while the Civil Servants have 42 points from the same number of games.

At Kalulu in Nchalo, Mighty Wanderers continued with their revival run when they beat relegated Chikwawa United 3-2. The hero of the afternoon in the blue side of town was slippery winger Mike Kaziputa who claimed a brace while Cuthbert Sinetre scored the other goal. Rankin Mwale and Josiah Diwa were on target for Chikwawa.

The Nomads have moved a step up to ninth position with 34 points from 27 games.

Mafco FC beat Azam Tigers 2-0 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre courtesy of Emmanuel Chipeta’s double.
