Table-topping Moyale Barracks coach Nicholas Mhango is excited, but not carried away with the hot form of his striker Deus Nkutu who leads the 2014 TNM Super League Golden Boot Award pursuit.

“He is a good striker among this generation of strikers in a sense that he is able to score and shoot. We work hard behind the scenes to perfect his art of scoring. There are some things I cannot say publicly, but we keep on pushing him and when he listens to our advice, he scores,” Mhango said.

Mhango refused to disclose the weaknesses of the burly forward, but commented in general about most local teams and players of this generation.

“This generation of players sadziwa kumenya mpira, but kusewela mpira. Kusewela is about taking the ball from point A to B whereas kumenya mpira is about playing as a team from the goalkeeper, defence, midfielder to strikers for them to score. This requires coordination,” he explained.

Nkutu bagged a hat-trick when Moyale thumped Kamuzu Barracks 4-0 on Sunday to drag his tally to 14 goals with eight games to go, including this Saturday’s home match against Mighty Wanderers.

Interestingly, the second top scorer is Gastin Simkonda with 11 goals also from Moyale who top the 15-team table on 43 points, three points ahead of second-placed Blue Eagles and Big Bullets on third. The cops and the Bullets are separated on goal aggregate.

At stake is the K100 000 in store for the league’s top scorer, a place in the national team and surpassing the 18-goal mark. Last season’s top scorer Ishmael Thindwa scored 18 goals while at Epac, but he is now at Caps United in Zimbabwe.
