Moyale GS blames complacency for slip-up

Deposed leaders Moyale Barracks could be struggling in the TNM Super League second-round due to complacency, general secretary Major Grey Maluwa has noted.

“The season has reached a crucial stage with some teams having five or six games to fight for the championship and others against relegation, so it is not easy,” Maluwa explained on Tuesday.

“Football is now being played at another competitive level. In the first round, we finished on top. Maybe, we were comfortable and complacent and this has taken us by surprise.”

Moyale has lost back-to-back games in two consecutive weeks. They last won 4-0 against Kamuzu Barracks on September 28 2014 in the second-round, in a development that has seen the Kaning’ina Lions surrender the top spot to Big Bullets.

Bullets top the standings on 47 points, three ahead of Moyale who lost 2-1 to Civo United on Sunday; a week after an away 5-1 thrashing by Airborne Rangers.

The next game for Moyale is away to outgoing league champions Silver Strikers this Sunday.

Moyale’s consolation is that their leading marksman Deus Nkutu has cemented his chase for the Golden Boot Award on 16 goals with five games remaining for him to surpass the 18-goal mark.
