Moyale lift North Donna’s Eggs title
Moyale Barracks Sisters thumped CY Sisters 4-1 in the Northern Region finals of the K1.2 million Donna’s Eggs women football played at Chibavi ground in Mzuzu on Saturday.
Mwayi Ziba struck a double while Naomi Mwale and Vitima Ziba scored a goal each to ensure Moyale finished top of the league with 13 points. Maureen Phiri scored the consolation goal for CY Sisters.
“I am happy for Ziba and others to win this inaugural cup. We will jealously defend the title,” Moyale Barracks coach Victor Chingoka told The Nation after the game.
For being champions, Moyale received K500 000 and a carton of Donna’s eggs. CY Sisters, who finished with 11 points, received K250 000 and a tray of 30 eggs for each player. Kwaito, who came third received K150 000.
Gafu player, Shida Ng’ambi, received K10 000 for being the best player of the tournament.
The best print media award went to Nation Publications Limited sports correspondent Sebastian Nyirenda while Radio Livingstonia sports journalist Allan Nyirenda won the best electronic media award
Malawi Women Football Committee (MWFC) president Severia appealed to sports lovers to continue buying Donna’s eggs to safeguard the sponsorship.
Tamiwe Kilembe, who represented the sponsors, said it is her company’s wish to see girls taking part in the social economic development of the country than engaging in dangerous behaviours.
