Moyale rope in Mzuni captain

Mzuzu University (Mzuni) FC captain Victor Gondwe is on the verge of joining Malawi Defence Force (MDF) side Moyale Barracks.

Mzuni general secretary Khumbo Kumwenda, while confirming the move, said Gondwe is a free agent.

“So far, we haven’t lost any player. Some, who were on loan from other clubs, have gone back and few have decided to move on. But there is a good chance that the former captain Victor Gondwe will sign for Moyale. He is a free agent and can join another club,” said Kumwenda.

In an interview, Gondwe said he is working hard to impress the MDF side’s technical panel.

“I have been training with the team for three weeks now and it’s my wish to play for the team. I am working hard to impress the coaches,” he said.

Moyale coach Charles Kumanga spoke highly of the midfielder.

“We have him here at Moyale. We featured him in our two games in Lilongwe against Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles. Among all the trialists we have, Gondwe is outstanding and I can confirm that we will sign him,” he said.

Moyale Barracks finished seventh with 47 points last season and were runners-up in the Presidential Cup.

Meanwhile, Kumwenda, said Mzuni will have a squad of 25 this season.

“We want to do better than last season. As you are aware, we started well, but there was no consistency in the second round. This was largely due to lack of experience and also internal issues at the campus,” he said.

Mzuni finished ninth with 41 points.

Their top goal scorer Lughindiko Mushani had 10 goals followed by Harrison Milazi with four. n
