Moyale vow to turn tables against BB in Airtel Top 8

Moyale Barracks have vowed to turn the tables when they host Nyasa Big Bullets in an Airtel Top 8 quarter-final second leg showdown this afternoon at Mzuzu Stadium.

The People’s Team has a spring in its step going into today’s contest having won the first leg 1-0 a fortnight ago at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo through ‘super-sub’ Patrick Phiri’s strike in added time.

Before this match, Bullets also beat the Malawi Defence Force (MDF)-sponsored outfit 2-0 in a TNM Super League match at the same venue.

But on Thursday,  Moyale coach Charles Kamanga declared in an interview it will be payback time for the People’s Team.

“That first leg loss still haunts us considering the timing of their winning goal, but we have put all that behind us and we will not only win on Saturday [today], but we will also progress to the semi-finals.

“We are well prepared for this one and playing at home gives us extra motivation. So, we are down but not out,” he said.

Kamanga, however, rued the absence of defender Black Alison due to an injury he picked in last weekend’s Super League match against Mzuzu University.

Alison scored the priceless goal for the soldiers the last time they beat Bullets in a Super League match in May last year.

He also said Boy-Boy Chima was supposed to pass a late fitness test yesterday afternoon.

However, Bullets coach Rogers Yasin said they are unruffled by Moyale’s tough-talk.

“For us it is about continuing from where we stopped. We are expecting a tough match because they [Moyale] will be out to score an early goal so as to level the scores.

“But we are prepared for them. If we could get an early goal then it could take off their rhythm,” he said.

Bullets, who travelled to Mzuzu on Thursday from Lilongwe where they had been camping, were set to get the feel of the match venue yesterday afternoon.

The People’s Team refused to release seven players to the national team early this week as they stepped up preparations for this afternoon’s encounter.

Their trampcard is in-form Phiri who has scored in three successive matches after being thrown in as a substitute.

Chiukepo Msowoya, Bright ‘Bweke’ Munthali, Henry ‘Magetsi’ Kabichi, battle-hardened Fischer Kondowe, Mike Mkwate and Precious Phiri complete Bullets’ attacking machinery.

On the other hand, revitalised Gastin Simkonda, Deus Nkutu, Chrispin Fukizi and Brown Magaga carry Moyale’s hopes.

In another Airtel Top 8 quarter-final second leg fixture, Be Forward Wanderers host Kamuzu Barracks at their dreaded Balaka Stadium tomorrow. The Nomads won the first leg 1-0 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe last Sunday.
