Long distance runner Henry Moyo has said he is confident of a good result at the Russian marathon he is preparing for.

Moyo has camped in Mzuzu ahead of the trip to Russia on July 23.

Nedbank of South Africa invited Moyo to take part in the Russian marathon after he impressed in the Two Ocean Marathons.

Moyo believes Mzuzu weather and terrain offer the best environment an athlete needs to meet the 2:18 hours qualifying time for the London Marathon, the world’s best rewarding event to athletes, which will take place September this year.

“I am happy that my preparations are going on well and I am confident that I will do better for Malawi,” said Moyo who was captured watching the Presidential Cup game between Azam Tigers FC and Moyale Barracks at Mzuzu Stadium last Sunday.

The Malawi police officer said he chose to camp in Mzuzu so that he can operate from there to have a feel of the mountainous tracks of Nkhata Bay, which he feels can help him acquire the necessary fitness to defeat the world.

“From Mzuzu, I will go to Karonga where I feel the hot weather will also help me fine tune my preparations,” said Moyo who started athletics at Thunda Primary School in Livingstonia, Rumphi in 1985.
