A Mozambican acappella group Philadelphia will this Sunday team up with Malawi’s gospel outfit Joyful Souls in launching the latter’s third album, Abweranso.

Mark Zakulanda, a member of Joyful Souls, said the event, which will attract gospel pundits, will take place at Robin’s Park in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre.

He said the launch follows their two previous albums, Tidzauluka in 2005 and Adzaweluza in 2009.

“The 10-cut collection contains popular Malawian hymns, that were rearranged by one-time E-Wallet judge Rodgers Mpinganjira, who sings first tenor in the group,” said Zakulanda.

Adams Family and Chifundo Chikonga of Advent Hope will also perform.

“The silence is worth it in that we have been revisiting our acappela touch. I can now comfortably say we are getting there. All the songs in the album are purely acappella. We recorded the songs at PC Studios.

“The rearrangement helps give to songs a Joyful Souls feel. The main message is on the coming again of Jesus Christ. We are also talking about what He is doing in the Holy of Holies where He is now,” said Zakulanda.

Other members of the group are Lloyd Kayisi Phiri, Bram Fudzulani, Marvin Ching’amba, Arthur Chidothe and Lovemore Kamtsonya.
