Speaking in an interview on Monday, Mwanza district commissioner (DC) Gift Rapozo said the district currently has 330 refugees from 218 families most of whom are from Moatize District in Tete Province.

He said his office and Mozambican authorities held discussions with the refugees in Mwanza last month where they were promised safety and asked to go back to their country.

He said as a condition to return to their country, the refugees requested their government to find them places to settle in urban centres which they claim are safer, but the authorities have not yet responded to the request.

The refugees are being assisted by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees(UNHCR), Medecins San Frontieres (MSF) and World Food Programme(WFP). n
