Mozambique based midfielder joins Flames’ cry

Listen to this article

Dangalira Mnelemba, visiting Mozambique’s GDHCB Malawian midfielder, says he is ‘dying’ to be considered to play for the Flames.

The former Bullets Youth midfielder said this at the weekend after GDHCB started their tour of Malawi with a 3-2 win over Blantyre United at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday. The visitors drew 1-1 with Mighty Wanderers on Tuesday.

“It hurts watching the Flames lose games they are not supposed to. It hurts more when you fancy yourself doing better than those who are in action. I am ready. It is an opportunity I would grab with both hands,” said the young brother to ex-MTL Wanderers and Blue Eagles midfielder, George.

He left Malawi five years ago after being promoted to senior Bullets squad, but never got to play for them. He is one of the longest Malawian survivors playing in the former Portuguese colony.

“My secret has always been hard work. It is also important that, as players, we keep away from immorality and drinking. You have to respect your career,” Mnelemba noted.

GDHCD coach Medson Nyirenda revealed that his club was also home to another Malawian defender Fred Chindipha, describing both players as “very good and very disciplined”.

Mozambican scout James Nelito Pondamale has joined calls for the Flames selectors to cast the net wider and try the many Malawian players spread across Mozambique.

GDHCB [Grupo Desportivo da Hidroelectrica de Cahora Barra] is based in Mozambique province of Songo.
