Mozambican top-flight Mocambola League champions UB Songo have approached Silver Strikers for back-to-back pre-season international friendlies.

The Central Bankers general secretary Lawrence Yobe yesterday said Songo have proposed to come for two international friendly matches this weekend before inviting Silver to Mozambique next weekend.

Silver are tuning up for the 2019 season

“They want us to play them on Saturday and they have further asked us to arrange another friendly on Sunday.

“As at now, nothing has been agreed yet as we are still in the planning stages and we should have a clear picture by tomorrow morning.

“But in the event that we agree, then they [Songo] could play Civil Sporting on Sunday because some of our players are on loan with them and it could provide them a chance to assess them,” he said.

Yobe said similarly, they will also play two international friendly matches in Mozambique.

The Mozambican team has in its fold three Malawian players, namely goalkeeper Charles Swini and midfielders Frank and John Banda.

They are also regular participants in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) inter-club competitions.

Silver assistant coach Peter Mgangira said the friendlies would help them tune up for the forthcoming season.

On Sunday, Silver beat TN Stars 4-1 in a friendly match organised by Good News Ministries as part of their fundraising drive.

The match was played in Kasungu. Mike Tetteh scored the opener for the Central Bankers while Khuda Muyaba netted a hat-trick. Tonic Viyuyi scored the consolation goal for the hosts. n
