Azam Tigers striker Peter Kasonga, who out of three Malawians survived preliminary round trials at Mozambique giants Costa do Sol, has also been released.
Broker of the trials, James Pondomale, confirmed on Wednesday that Kasonga was on his way home despite excelling in the preliminary round of the test that lasted three weeks.
“He is flying back tomorrow. Apparently, the coach said yes, but the other guy from the technical panel said he is good, but locally they have someone cheaper with his qualities. They have opted for a local player,” Pondomale explained.
Kasonga had survived at Costa whereas Silver Strikers winger Blessings Tembo and his Mighty Wanderers counterpart Mike Kaziputa were released earlier. Kasonga travelled with the team to South Africa for pre-season games, which were part of his final trials.
This season Silver has exported to Mozambique goalkeeper Charles Swini and midfielder Frank Banda at HCB Football Club of Tete Province. HCB are now undergoing pre-season training at the High Performance Centre of South Africa.
Mozambican newspaper Noticias reported, in a translated version, that HCB will be holed up in Pretoria until February 26 2015. Banda and Swini are part of the training that includes friendly games against University of Pretoria.
