MP Jonasi sponsors K3m league

Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe City Centre Constituency, Shadreck Jonasi, has established sports leagues in his area to the tune of K3 million (about $8 823).

The league has netball, football and athletics competing in club and school categories.

Jonasi said he has decided to sponsor the leagues to keep the youth busy.

“I want them to be busy to avoid behaviours that can doom their future as we are living in a dangerous environment,” said Jonasi.

He said he has included athletics because the sport is dying a natural death, particularly in schools.

“During our time in school, we had athletics competitions in almost all the schools, but now this is not the case,” he said.

He said the committee that will run the league will soon announce the date of the launch.

One of the organising committee members, Edman Msokera, thanked Jonasi for the initiative.

He said this is the first time to have leagues in the constituency.
