Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) parliamentarian for Zomba Chisi constituency, Peter Chizalo Mangulenje, has died.

According to Zomba District Commissioner (DC) Benet Nkasala, Mangulenje died today morning at Mwaiwathu private hospital in Blantyre after a short illness.

Currently, the body of the late Mangulenje is at College of Medicine mortuary in Blantyre.

Nkasala said the council is working with the National Assembly on burial arrangements.

National Assembly spokesperson, Leonard Mengezi, said the burial will be held on Friday in Zomba.

“Tentatively the burial will be on Friday, but we will issue a statement tomorrow [Thursday] about the burial arrangements. The body will be taken to his home village from College of Medicine tomorrow,” he said.

Late Mangulenje became member of parliament for the area in 2009. He was the only DPP parliamentarian who retained his seat during the 2014 tripartite polls in Zomba.
