MP responds to constituents’ accusations
Lilongwe City West member of Parliament (MP) Aggrey Masi (Democratic Progressive Party-DPP) has admitted that his area has registered sluggish development since he assumed office in May 2014.
Masi, who is Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, was responding to criticism by his constituents that he is doing nothing in the constituency.
Recently, communities under village head (VH) Jizalemu in Traditional Authority (T/A) Njewa in the district complained that their MP and Mtsiriza Ward councillor Rodney Nsona failed to develop the area.
Jizalemu told The Nation last week that communities have twice written Masi and Nsona demanding explanations on why the area is not benefitting from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and Local Development Fund (LDF).
While confirming underdevelopment in the area, Masi attributed this to inadequate funds government allocates the constituency.
He said: “There are development projects taking place in some wards. But it’s quite true that we have the problem of school blocks at Mtsiriza; and that pupils are learning under the trees.”
