Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe Msozi-South Vitus Dzoole-Mwale (Malawi Congress Party-MCP) believes Lilongwe should host the tally centre during the 2019 tripartite elections instead of Blantyre as has been the case since 1994.

Contributing to the allocation for Malawi Electoral Commission vote 460, for the 2015/16 financial year, estimated at K2.5 billion, Dzoole-Mwale said by 2019, Lilongwe will have facilities such as the national stadium where the President would be sworn in.

He said: “I would want to find out if we will have a tally centre in the Central Region because there are no estimates planned for this activity in the budget.”

When he did not get a response from Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development  Goodall Gondwe, Dzoole-Mwale repeated: “What plans does the Electoral Commission have for vote counting in 2019? We would want people from the Northern and Southern Region to converge here in the Central Region.”

But Gondwe responded that he was not privy to that information, joking that maybe if there was such an arrangement MCP would not have lost the election in 2014.
