“Following the impact, one female passenger identified as Madalitso Kamanga Mwale, 27, of Mutchaya Village, Traditional Authority Malengamzoma in Nkhata Bay, sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntcheu District Hospital,” Chigalu said.

In an interview yesterday, MPC media officer Aida Kazembe said the corporation regrets the sad development and will do everything possible to ensure that those affected are assisted accordingly.

She said: “We remain committed to safety adherence at all costs. We have measures in place and the buses are speed galvanised.

This is a third road accident for MPC since it diversified into public transport business in October 2019.

The other two which occured in 2019 and on January 19 2020, respctively, forced the operator to temporarily suspend its bus operations to re-run safety checks.
