MPCC win National Darts Championship

Malawi Posts Communication Centre (MPCC) from Blantyre and Districts Darts League (BDDL) on Sunday clinched the 2015 National Darts Championship at Mphatso Motel in Mzuzu.

Nine teams took part in the two-day event which was sponsored by Capital Glass Company and Macsteel.darts

MPCC accumulated 22 points from nine games.

They received K70 000 ($96) for being the champions while runners-up Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) also from BDDL got K40 000 ($55).

BSC earned 20 points from nine games while Mzuzu Select finished third with 16 points and received K25 000 ($34).

Speaking after the tournament, MPCC captain Talimba Mwaluwanda said they will continue working hard so that they should also do in the 2016 season.

“I am happy for the win. It is clear that we had a good team, my players did a good job,” he said.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, tournament director Charles Katola thanked Capital Glass Company and Macsteel for sponsoring the tournament.

“It was a good tournament; all teams were determined to win,” he said.

According to Katola, the national darts team will soon embark on preparations for Africa Union (AU) Regional 5 tournament to be held in Lusaka, Zambia in August.

In his remarks, Darts Association of Malawi (DAM) vice-president Duncan Karim said the tournament helped expose new talent.

“We thank the teams for participating in the tournament. It shows that the game is developing, especially in the Northern Region where the game has been dormant,” he said.

BDDL were represented by White Eagles, BSC and MPCC.

Zomba and Districts Darts League (ZDDL) were represented by Domasi and Cobbe Stingers, Lilongwe and Districts Darts League ( LDDL) had Capital Glass and Kamuzu Barracks Snipers whereas host Mzuzu and Districts Darts League (MDDL) had Mzuzu Select A and B.
