Mpingwe Veterans flop in OG Plastics Cricket

MSC Veterans dropped out of the 2012 OG Plastics 25-Overs Cricket Tournament at Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) on Sunday after losing to MSC Silver by eight wickets. This was their fourth straight defeat.

Despite Faraz Junejo becoming the leading run-scorer with 54 runs on the day, the Veterans could not afford to pull a surprise over the FMB 20-Overs League champions as they made 160-runs in 25-Overs, a feat MSC Silver achieved in just 20.3-Overs.

MSC Veterans have become the first team to be booted out of the K800 000 competition which will wind up its preliminary games in two weeks’ time, according to Southern Region Cricket League (SRCL) chairperson Shiraz Zaveri.

“It is just unfortunate that we have been booted out of the competition this early; otherwise, our team put up a gallant fight,” said Zaveri, who is also one of MSC Veterans’ senior players.

The Sunday result has earned MSC Silver a quarter-final slot with a game in hand. Asif Rustam, who emerged the best player of the tournament in the FMB League, was influential in MSC Silver’s victory as he made 53 runs.

Irfan Pathan and Aama Minhaz also contributed 52runs and 32-runs respectively for MSC Silver whereas Mahomed Raidhan tried in vain to help the Veterans wriggle off the hook with 38 runs.
