Mr. Jokes releases fourth DVD

After releasing three DVDs, renowned comedienne Andrea Thonyiwa alias Mr Jokes, has released his fourth cut titled Mr. Jokes Standup Comedy Part 4.

“Having released the three series in 2009, 2012 and 2014, I am continuing with my journey in 2015 by releasing the fourth of the editions which will be out in this January,” he said.

The DVD with 74 jokes has been produced by Steve Masamba of Jabroma Studios in Blantyre.

Much of his work lampoons greedy, corruption among others while entertaining, educating and informing people.

“There is going to be no launch of the DVD. Once out, it will be on the market, that is enough for the people. Mind you, my DVDs are always sold at K300 and people should know that anybody selling more than this is milking them,” he cautioned.

For Mr Jokes, who has a cheeky and vivacious comedy style which has been appreciated by comedy audiences in Malawi, money is enough as the industry is still in its infancy.

“People have realised comedy doesn’t always have to be political for one, just an example. This has helped more young people embrace it as a career path. The existence of comedy has softened the powers that be I guess a lot more in allowing this form of expression to happen. We have also given comedy a face that companies want to get behind.

“However, despite these gains, the industry remains small and there is need for a major change. Therefore, it is a gamble to be selling DVDs at an expensive price because there is a majority of people in the country who still cannot appreciate this talent and its benefits to the nation,” he explained.

Wherever he has been staging performances, comedy lovers always get intrigued with Mr. Jokes’ weird sense of humour, especially when he depicts himself in plays as a woman. n
