After several postponements due to lack of sponsorship, the 2014 Mr. Malawi Bodybuilding Championship will finally roll out on December 13 at Cross Roads Hotel in Lilongwe.

Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (WBAM) president Richard Kuwali made the revelation on Thursday saying they will use part of their K1million allocation from the Sports Council to conduct the annual event.

Ichocho_closeupHe, however, said a number of companies have also shown interest to bankroll the contest which was previously sponsored by ETG Agro Tractors.

Kuwali added that the winner’s prize has been increased from last year’s K200 000 to K250 000. Runner-up and third-placed bodybuilders are expected to receive K150 000 and K100 000, respectively while those in fourth and fifth positions will get K60 000 each.

“We are glad to say that the competition is finally on this year. We, therefore, ask athletes to intensify their preparations. Those interested to contest should contact national coach Chimwemwe Bakali on 0995470960 for registration,” he said.

Four-time champion Henry Master is set to defend the title against contention from his runner-up Yasin ‘Ichocho’ Suwedi and other athletes such as Thoko Kakhongwe.
