Mr Splash goes onto radio

He has made his name through the television, and obviously his name is synonymous with MBC television.

The name is Geoffrey Kapusa aka Mr Splash, a household personality whose braveness and sincerity reached a pinnacle when he openly declared last year that he is HIV positive.

That boldness earned Kapusa mixed public reactions but at the end of the day, it was the same element that ignited the Story Workshop to fish him and lead the crusade of realities of HIV and Aids through a radio programme dubbed Lende Nkukankhana.

“Since I disclosed my HIV positive status, I found myself wanted by so many organisations to either do positive talk or something that will relay living positive messages to those who are living in denial. Many people today are dying because they do not want to accept the reality and I am just out preaching the gospel truth that HIV is here and we just have to talk about it, deal with it and live positive,” Mr Splash told The Nation.

Producer of the show Mercy Simbi said Lende Nkukankhana is a Comic Relief sponsored project being implemented by Story Workshop.

“Geoffrey’s disclosure that he is living with HIV is inspiring and motivating especially to those that are living with HIV. As a project officer and programme producer I thought Kapusa would be a great ‘vessel’ of our messages. In the programme he narrates his life story in relation to the SMSs he gets from his audience. He also advises his audience how they can live positively with HIV like he does. So he plays presenter and expert,” highlighted Simbi.

Obviously radio and television are different. On radio Mr Splash cannot flash fingers at the listener as his popular signature is on the television to the viewers. But Kapusa is honest enough to disclose that his producer has been instrumental in enabling him adjusting accordingly.

In her remarks, Simbi described working with Kapusa as lively and exciting.

“Working with Kapusa is fun, he is humble and ready to take advice.

However, Simbi says the ‘Big’ Lende Nkukankhana which Kapusa anchors, airs on Zodiak Radio every Wednesday at 2.30 pm.

The programme advocates for availability of HIV and Aids services.
